Cobargo Green Recovery Inc, a not for profit community group, was formed in July 2020 to help the town recover from the black summer bush fires. Their aim is to help the town recover mentally and physically by improving the burnt landscape. They intend to do this by building a walking track around town, add sculptures and seating, plant suitable shade trees, enhance the north, south, east and west entryways into Cobargo with a mix of deciduous and fire resistant tree species, build a basketball/netball court, bbq area, skate bowl and toilet at the youth recreation park, known as the skate park, hold youth events at the skate park to educate young people on climate change in conjunction with the local RFS, Scouts and other community groups, also open mic and sporting events for youth. The erosion of the local creek system is another big project that needs government departments to respond to.
Cobargo Green Recovery have been working hard on their project proposal and they have also been busy applying for grants to help achieve their goals. They are looking for Council support in all they are trying to achieve for the town and the community’s recovery.
